Ayarwaddy Dolphins
Very interesting relationship may be found between humans and Ayarwaddy Dolphins. This is the only place, the almighty Ayarwaddy River, where interactive relationship of humans and animals occur.
These particularly distinctive animals have a bulging forehead, short beak, and 12-19 teeth on each side of both jaws and are similar in body form to the beluga whale, but darker in color. Their dorsal fins are small, triangular and rounded.
These human-friendly animals believe humans as their friends and help them in fishing, by leading them to the fishes with waves from their flukes, locating the area of many fishes and gathering fishes into a tight ball. This fishing technique can only be found in the stretch of the Ayarwaddy River between Mingun and Sintgu.
